Should I stay in Ahangama or Weligama?

Weligama is the easier beginner bay: a long sandy beach, forgiving whitewater and the busiest strip of surf schools on the coast. Ahangama is quieter and greener, and it is closer to the better waves once you are standing up, Kabalana included. The Elephant Hostel sits between the two on Kabalana Rd, about twelve minutes from Weligama by tuk-tuk, so you can learn in Weligama and progress in Ahangama without moving where you sleep.
